Spider Egg
Spider Eggs are blocks that can be found in Spider Egg Clusters. These mysterious eggs will hatch into Spiderlings after a period of time, making them both a decorative block and a source of baby spiders.
Obtaining
Spider Eggs generate naturally in caves underground, specifically in:
- Spider Egg Clusters surrounded by Spider Moss
If a Spider Egg is broken before it hatches, it will drop 2-3 spider egg shells. However, if you use a pickaxe with the silk touch enchantment, it will drop itself. You can not place it to grow a baby spider though, it will sit there like a decoration.
Usage
When left undisturbed in their natural environment, Spider Eggs will eventually hatch into Spiderlings, providing a source of baby spiders.
Some Spider Eggs have a "Protector Spider" tag to it. This tag makes it so spiders will spawn near it and "protect" the eggs. The spiders usually stay near the eggs, unless they get targeted on something, like an enemy.
Behavior
Spider Eggs have a unique hatching mechanic:- Hatching Time: Spider Eggs hatch after 18-24 minutes of being loaded
- Environmental Requirements: Eggs must be in a loaded chunk to progress their hatching timer
- Hatching Result: When ready, the egg breaks and spawns a Spiderling
Spider Eggs can be placed on any solid block and will maintain their hatching behavior regardless of light level or surrounding blocks.
If you use a Flint and Steel on a spider egg, it will burn the spider inside and give you the Burn the Nest advancement. You can then pick up the egg with silk touch and place it as a decoration.
