Goose
Geese are semiaquatic neutral mobs that prefer staying near water. They show tendencies to be annoying, can hold grudges against players, and may even pick up swords to use as weapons in hit-and-run attacks.
Spawning
Geese naturally spawn in areas near water bodies. They require at least 6 water blocks within a 12-block horizontal radius and 5-block vertical range to spawn. Geese can spawn on blocks with ice covering water underneath.
There are three goose variants that spawn based on biome:
- Temperate Goose: The standard variant found in temperate biomes
- Cold Goose: Found in cold and snowy biomes, lays large white eggs
- Warm Goose: Found in warm biomes, lays small white eggs
Adult geese have a 30% chance to spawn with 1-3 baby geese nearby during natural spawning, creating small family groups.
Loot
Upon death, adult geese drop 1 raw goose (or cooked goose if killed while on fire) and 0-2 feathers.

Note: Cooked goose is dropped instead of raw goose when the goose is killed while on fire or by a weapon with a Fire Aspect enchantment.
Behavior
Each goose has a randomly assigned preference for either water or land. This preference changes every 4-7 minutes (4800-7200 ticks). When geese spend 30-60 seconds in their non-preferred environment, they actively seek to return to their preferred habitat.
Adult geese lay eggs every 5-10 minutes (6000-12000 ticks). The egg type depends on the goose variant:
- Temperate: White Egg
- Cold: Big White Egg
- Warm: Small White Egg
Adult geese can pick up swords from the ground to use as weapons. Players can trade any type of seeds to convince a goose to drop its weapon, and the goose won't pick up another sword for 20 seconds after trading.
Combat
Geese employ a unique hit-and-run combat strategy when attacking players:
- Approach the player at 1.5× normal speed
- Strike once with their beak or equipped sword
- Immediately flee 8-16 blocks away
- Wait 5-7 minutes (6000-8400 ticks) before considering another attack
- Armed geese are prioritized as attackers over unarmed ones
Geese use three different death messages randomly:
- Goose Bother: "was bothered to death"
- Goose Peck: "was pecked to death"
- Goose Honk: "was honked at by Goose"
Geese have a revenge mechanic:
- When a goose is killed by a player, all geese within 64 blocks remember that player
- Geese will remember this player for 2-3 1/3 hours
- Geese have a countdown of 60-120 seconds between attack attempts
- During revenge attacks, geese strike 2-3 times before fleeing
